We all get a bit unhappy at work sometimes. A frustrating day can leave a very bad taste in the mouth, and some shifts can be more exhausting than others. These are normal things that you have to deal with in the world of work!
But sometimes there will be signs that the unhappiness you’re feeling is a chronic case. And when it’s a long term issue, there’s every chance you need to call it quits and find something else to do.
Make an empowered choice for yourself here. If you need a new career to plunge into, here are three signs that’ll confirm it.
Did you used to spring out of bed in the morning and have a smile on your face when you headed into work? You probably didn’t, but at the very least, you were content with the job you had. You didn’t mind heading into work, and you perhaps even enjoyed knowing there was a fulfilling work day ahead.
However, if any trace of that kind of mood has completely vanished, it’s a sign you’re not happy with your job. If you’re not satisfied with the work you do, and maybe even dread having to get up for work on the Sunday before the new week starts, you shouldn’t let the situation go on for too much longer.
Have you caught yourself surfing a job recruitment site or two in recent weeks? Maybe you’re on LinkedIn more often than you’ve ever been before? If the answer is yes, this is a sign you’re on the lookout for something else to try, whether you know it or not.
Of course, this could just be sheer curiosity. It’s good to keep an eye on the job market and see what’s out there, and whether or not you could be a better fit or earn a higher salary. But in combination with the other two signs on this post, it all adds up to the bigger picture.
This is the crux of the problem, if we’re being honest with you. When you roll up your sleeves to get into work for the day, do you do so with the knowledge that you’ll be soaring to new heights in the future? Do you see a promotion on the horizon? Do you have any inkling of a plan about where you want to take this next?
If you have nothing like this in the back of your mind, it’s another sign you’re not really happy. You could be treating this job as a gap filler, and while that’s fine, it’s not something to lie to yourself about. If you see no future in what you’re doing, it’ll be best to start looking into your true skills and passions.
When you’re not happy at work, there will be signs. Take them seriously when you notice them.
